Kettlebells: Thanks to Sifu Daniel Inosanto,
Sifu Cheng had the opportunity to train directly with Mr. Pavel
Tsatsouline, the man who brought Russian kettlebell science to
the forefront of modern strength training. Sifu Cheng has experienced
tremendous strength gains, as well as a remission of some nagging
lower back weakness & pain from undertaking regular kettlebell
training with Mr. Tsatsouline. When he started training with Mr.
Tsatsouline, Sifu Cheng could barely control a 26 lb. kettlebell
with his left arm. After training intermittently for only 3 months,
he could confidently snatch a 53 lb. kettlebell with his left
arm. When it opens its doors to the public, the Chung-Hua Institute
will have a full set of kettlebells available for those who choose
to train in the kettlebell circuit class. In the meantime, order
one that feels right for you (see the guide on the right hand
side of the Kettlebell page) and start training at home with it
and the Russian Kettlebell Challenge book. The Quick-Start
Kits are a great way to make kettlebell training a part of your
power lifestyle!
Nutrition:
Sambazon’s Açai: Açai is one of the Brazilian nutritional staples for most fighters. The semi-sweet fruit is amazingly high in antioxidants, like many other Brazilian rain forest fruits, and the pharmacological research keeps coming in with strong endorsements. After watching every one of the Gracies go out to the Sambazon stand at the Pan-American BJJ Tournament in 2005, Sifu Cheng tried it himself and fell in love with it. We highly recommend this brand of açai products for your home and your family. Please click on the banner to take you to their site, where you can read more about açai and browse their line of nutritional desserts, smoothies, and other products.
- 3immortals.com: 3 Immortals is a new company that’s dedicated to bringing the best of pan-Asian traditional medicine and health products to the Western world. Many of the products carried by 3 Immortals are personally used by Sifu Cheng for greater vitality and health, including Shan Zha, Liu Wei Di Huang Wan, and Yunnan Baiyao. Rang Do: Defend, Takedown, Submit, This long-awaited
text is the first book by both Sifu Cheng and Master Lee. The
first printing completely sold out in one month, setting a new
record in book sales for Black Belt Magazine’s book publishing
division. The book sets straight many of the misconceptions and
misunderstandings about Korean martial history, and shares a highly
effective formula for hand-to-hand combat in all ranges.
Dao of Taijiquan: Way to Rejuvenation, by the late Master Jou, Tsung-hwa.
- This book is one of the canonical texts for anyone who seriously wants to learn Tai-Chi in an English-speaking community. Master Jou has not only expounded on all kinds of Tai-Chi theory, but also included line drawings of the great masters of several different styles of Tai-Chi, including Chen, Yang, and Wu. Truly a 5-star recommendation!

athletic endeavor, then this is the book for you. For equipment-phobes,
Mr. Tsatsouline delivers in spades. 5-star recommendation!
Chinese Natural Cures: Traditional Methods for Remedies and Prevention, by Dr. Henry C. Lu.
- Professor Lu is one of the most highly regarded authorities on TCM in North America. His book takes the often confusing subject of Chinese herbalism and makes it easily accessible for the lay reader. Yet, even a seasoned practitioner can gain quite a bit of insight into herbal medicine and Chinese food medicines through this text.
Chinese Tui Na Massage: The Essential Guide to Treating Injuries, Improving Health & Balancing Qi, by Dr. Xu Xiangcai.
- Dr. Xu is one of the most vocal authorities on Tui-Na in China
today. His text, published by Dr. Yang Jwing-Ming's YMAA, is
one of the best introductory level texts for Tui-Na in English.
It is part of the recommended reading list for Sifu Cheng's
Tui-Na classes. 4-star recommendation
